The 73-year-old Floridian kitesurfer

Louis Gomez is 73 years old and he’s an avid kitesurfer. Yes, it’s not 37, but 73 years. This former software engineer for JP Morgan Chase discovered kiteboarding when he was 65 and decided to give it a go.
“I told my wife that sport just didn’t exist when I was younger,” Mr. Gomez tells The Wall Street Journal. “To heck with that, I wanted to try it because I wanted to do it. It was a challenge.”
The young wind addict had his first contact with kitesurfing on Lake Geneva, Switzerland, eight years ago and, there you go, he went for it. Despite the requirements of the sport, Louis Gomez was already a sportsman. He was a skier and racquetball player so his joints were prepared for strong impacts.
In 2008, Gomez had to undergo knee-replacement surgery but a few months later he got back to the waters for weekly training schemes. He lives in Pinecrest, Florida.

RJ Says: 1985 LA Coliseum Supercross video – part 1
Where supercross started – the fabled Los Angeles Coliseum in 1972. This video is from 1985 at the L. A. Coliseum Supercross.
This video is part 1 of 2. I wanted to get it up for you as quickly as possible. In this video, for better or worse, you’ll see a lot of me (I’m number 5 on a Yamaha). But in the second video that’s coming, you’ll see a lot more of my friends in the race like David Bailey, Bob Hannah, Jeff Ward, Goat Breker, Broc Glover, Ron Lechien, Johnny O’Mara, and others.
I think in 1985, we ran two ‘main events’ at each supercross. Part of what you see here (if my memory is correct) is me winning the first ‘main event’.
And stay tuned for the second video! Both videos have the fabled Peristyle uphill / downhill. And especially in the second video coming late next week, with guys like Jeff Ward, David Bailey, Bob Hannah, Broc Glover, Ron Lechien, Johnny O’Mara and myself – you’ll see riders with about 33 AMA Supercross and Motocross titles combined!
Hope you enjoy the videos …

First Test: 2005 Kawasaki KX250F

It has been one year since Kawasaki and Suzuki embarked on their first joint project: the mighty 250 four-stroke. It has been one year since Kawasaki and Suzuki embarked on their first joint project: the mighty 250 four-stroke. Last year’s highly anticipated KX-F/RM-Z250 definitely opened some eyes as the bike was a contender in its first year of production. During our 2004 MX shootout (Jan. ’04) testers praised the motor, but it wasn’t long before the first-year blues became apparent. Problems in the cooling system, with the transmission and clutch and the suspension began to surface as the bikes were made available to the public, and some of the ailments left many scratching their heads. Did the co-op not work? Or did someone try to cut corners somewhere along the line in the bike’s development? Whatever the answer, there was no doubt the bike had potential; it just needed some fine-tuning. And that is exactly what the ’05 model received. After our initial days of testing on the second-generation KX-F/RM-Z, it was clear the bike got the redesigns it needed.

DC Moto TF Ride Day with Josh Hill
In the 2010 AMA Supercross Championship series, Josh Hill consistently found himself on the podium. He ended the season sixth overall in points, in which he finished second in 5 of the 17 Main Events. In July, Josh spent time preparing for the ‘Speed and Style’ event for X Games 16. His practice session went from ‘landing a backflip on his first attempt’ to ‘under rotating the next time around.’ This horrific crash sent Josh to the hospital with a list of injuries and a whole new respect for the sport of Freestyle Motocross. I caught up with Josh, at Pala Raceway for the DC Moto TF Ride day, where he talked about his rehabilitation, his plans for Supercross 2011, and more!

Josh Hill at the DC Moto TF Ride Day
Angela: Hey Josh, you are looking good. How are you feeling?
Josh: Yeah I am getting better, everything is starting to heal up and I am getting to where I can function normally again. So it is getting better, but I need to focus on getting my body stronger. That is my main thing right now.
